DO NOT IGNORE THIS WARNING!- That being said, there are a number of things you can fix yourself. Not that we don't want your business, but if you can safely do these things yourself, perhaps you'll trust us when you need us. IF AT ANYTIME THE BREAKER WONT RESET, STOP. THIS INDICATES A SERIOUS CONDITION. 1.If the unit isn't coming on at all: Check to make sure your thermostat is correctly set. Are there batteries in the thermostat that need replacing? 2.If there is ice on the copper line outside Many times this happens from a dirty filter. This condition can actually destroy your compressor very quickly. $2.00 filter can save a $2000 unit...- change the filter, then at the thermostat, turn the system-off, and the fan-on . It can take several hours to completely thaw. Do not restart the system until it is completely thawed or it will freeze again. If you have done this and it refreezes, call us, the other solutions require licenses and special training. We have both! 3.Not enough air flow out of the registers. Change the filter and assume that there may be ice on the evaporator coil. (see # 2 above). 4. Outside unit fan isn't turning or coming on Check the breakers..do not attempt to repair. This involves high voltage, Call R&K Services to quickly diagnose and repair. 5.Water in the pan under the unit, or where it shouldn't be This usually means that the line the water is supposed to go down, is clogged. NEVER pour bleach in a clogged line. Bleach to keep a line clear of mold may help, but bleach in a clogged line will get where you don't want it, usually the carpet. TIP-Have a bucket or large bowl and towels handy before you attempt any water repair . Decide if the problem is a leak or a clog. Leaks are tricky and probably need a professional's touch. They have a tendency to get worse quickly. A clog can sometimes be remedied with a quick blow through the pipe where the line tees. brass instrument players have an advantage here. We can solve either problem with just a phone call. Please let us know if this helps, and we will include more tips to help you save money on HVAC calls. Call us with your problem, if it something you can safely repair yourself we will let you know. 972-442-7300
